August 3 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm| $5.00
OOAK Art Gallery and Maples present Carpathian Spruce, Thursday August 3, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 in the Gallery. Cost for the concert is $5.00.
Carpathian Spruce plays music from the Balkans. The Balkans are a fractured land divided and in conflict. Band members Danny Blose, Justine Cefalu, Garnet Morgan, Matt Riley and Eric Witherspoon envision peace and acceptance and seek to be involved in this process by appreciating the musical heritage of the region.
The name “Carpathian Spruce” refers to the trees used to provide the wood for the tops of violins, the warmth and breadth of the voice of the instrument. The band is also aware that the best trees, over 100 years old, need time care and cultivation. It is hard to maintain responsible environmental stewardship in lands torn by conflict.
“We too, live in an area in need of environmental stewardship, and we also are in a divided land. A land divided by values and where some people’s basic needs are not met. Through joyous, festive music, we celebrate and invite you to come celebrate with us.”
